I have heard that many people consider this to be one of their favourite ages/stages for babies. Your baby can do so many new fun things at this age but he/she is still immobile so it's easier to keep an eye on them! I am certainly enjoying my time with Avery and Noel is too. Noel likes to watch him in the Jolly Jumper and also carries him around on his shoulders. Avery really likes seeing the world from that vantage point! Avery and I spend our days playing, singing, dancing, walking, and splashing. It's a good time. : )
So, here are some of the skills that Avery has acquired recently:
- Rolling over
- Attempts to crawl (although he moves backwards, much to his disappointment!)
- Sits up straight while leaning against me
- Grabs objects and can transfer them between hands
- Sticks my hands in his mouth
- Explores faces with his hands
- Sticks everything into his mouth
- Sticks his foot in his mouth!
- Shakes and bangs items
- Exersaucer (until he gets frustrated that he can't put the things in his mouth)
- Jolly Jumper
- Searches the room for me
- Holds a book in his hand and looks at the pictures
- Makes new sounds
- Much better head control
- Stands in my lap, while I'm holding him
- Recognizes some people
- Screams if he can't do what he is trying to do : (
I am also really looking forward to six months of age, when Avery can start eating solid food! That should be fun. Avery is interested in food now so I think he will enjoy it when it is finally time to try some.
So, here is Avery's official "5 months old" photo. It's not very good (because it's difficult to get him and Shelby to sit together and have both, or either, of them look great, apparently) so I've also included a photo of him that I took the day before his birthday. He's a cutie!
