Avery is now speaking his first word, and it is. . . Dada. This is great for Noel. Whenever Avery sees Noel he says "Dada!". He is so happy to see his Dad. Avery also says Dada when he wants to see Noel - which is so cute! They have been getting along really well lately. It is nice that Avery is in a good mood most of the time and he is getting much better at communicating what he wants. And he is so much fun to play with now too. He likes to play with his mega blocks (you build something, he tears it apart - usually while you are still building!), play with his trucks and cars, and read books. These are all things that we enjoy doing with him. And another neat thing is that he can crawl over to you and pull himself up on your legs if he wants you to pick him up - which he did to Noel the other day first thing in the morning. He was happy to see his Dad!
But, I have to admit, I wish he would say Mama! Noel says every time Avery says Dada I look sad. I don't mean to look sad! I told Noel I guess it's because I want him to say Mama, because I'm the one who carried him in my womb for 9 months, had my abdomen cut open so he could get out, got up for every single middle of the night waking, and changed over 600 poopy diapers! The thing is, I don't think he even knows that "Mama" is my name, and that's the first step towards saying it. (If you ask Avery "Where's Mama?" he doesn't know what you are talking about.) I'm pretty sure he still thinks that him and I are two halves of the same being. Oh well, I am sure he will say Mama soon enough. For now I am just happy to Noel and Avery enjoying each other so much! I love them both.

He's not slighting you Laurie. Just physically say dada and then mama. Isn't dada so much easier to say. So it goes with Avery. Did you really calculate the number of diapers you have changed? He still knows who the breast milk comes from. He'll say mama soon enough and you will even wish one day he never learned that too. As anyone it always starts with dada.
