Santa visit

Yesterday, while I was in Barrie, I took Avery to get his photo taken with Santa.  At first I wasn't sure that I wanted to do it, since I've struggled with the thought of lying to Avery about the existence of Santa Claus only to have him be sad and disappointed when he finds out later that Santa isn't real.  On the other hand, I don't want him to be the only kid at his school who doesn't believe.  I just wish our whole culture didn't play along with the lie.  I talked to Noel about it and I think we have decided to "do" the whole Santa thing, in moderation.  However, I will never force Avery to sit on Santa's lap if he doesn't want to.  I figured this year it would be okay since Avery doesn't really know what is going on and he's not acting afraid of other people (yet?).
It turns out that Avery was quite fascinated by Santa!  Avery kept staring up at him - so much so that it was difficult to get a photo of Avery looking at the camera!  He gripped on to Santa's finger and kept holding it.  So, here's the photo.  He's not really smiling his charming little smile, but that's because he was so intrigued by the whole event.  He is very serious when he is discovering new things.  : )

  1. Wow, that's one of the best Santas I've seen. We didn't do Santa, and I don't think it hurt them, but you'd have to ask Noel if he thinks it hurt him. We focused more on it being Jesus' birthday party.
