4 months!

Avery was 4 months old on Saturday!  Very exciting.  He is getting so big and it is so neat watching all the things that he is learning to do.  Every morning when I go to get him I am so happy to see him and it's cute to see how excited he is to see me!  He starts to "talk" to me when I walk in the room.  I don't even mind (too much) that he usually wakes me up at 5:45am! 

Some of the things he has learned to do recently are:

• Sitting up on his own, although he is still a bit wobbly (as you can see in the photo)
• Follow a moving object with his eyes
• lifting his butt up when lying on his back - he loves to do this!
• Shaking a rattle; moving it to his other hand
• looking at my hand - he is fascinated by other people's hands and will spend minutes at a time staring at them from all angles
• touching faces
• putting everything into his mouth
• "talking" in vowel sounds
• staring at designs on clothing
• getting much better at expressing his feelings - usually when he doesn't like something!  : )

Today I took Avery to get his four month vaccinations.  They actually went better than last time - he cried less, which was good.  They stick him in the thighs with 2 giant needles!  So considering that, I think he was very brave. It was a bit sad because he was happy to be there - he likes the Nurse Practitioner and was having a good time until he got stuck with the needles.  Poor little guy!
 The NP was very pleased with his health.  He is 27 inches tall, 15 pounds and 14 ounces, and his head circumference is 41 cm.  I am not sure if the height is entirely correct, since that means he's in the 97th percentile for height.  They just measure by making marks on that paper on the exam tables so it doesn't seem very precise!  Anyway, he seems to be reacting well to the vaccines.  This afternoon we had a nap together in the big bed and he slept for 4 hours!  It was the longest he ever slept and it was awesome!  It kinda makes up for for getting up at 5:45am.  : )
Overall, I've really enjoyed that last 4 months with Avery and I am very much looking forward to everything that is ahead!
